Ready for Kindergarten?

How to decide whether your little girl or boy is ready for Kindergarten? Of course, we think our little angels are the most brilliant children ever but how do we really know if they are ready to start school, especially if their birthday falls within the cusp months. Below is a handy checklist to review that helps you determine your child's school readiness.
Can they say their first and last name?
Can they write their name?
Identify colors and basic shapes?
Hold a pencil and crayon the correct way?
Follow simple instructions of 1-3 steps?
Can they draw a picture then talk about it?
Cut with scissors correctly?
Can they follow along in a book (left to right, front to back?)
Identify each letter in the alphabet?
If you can answer yes to most of these questions, then your child is probably ready to tackle kindergarten. If you're coming up with no more than yes, take this information to your child's doctor to review. More than likely, they just need another year development before starting kindergarten, but it never hurts keeping pediatricians in the loop understanding where your child's development skills are.
